Capital punishment: is it ever justified to kill a criminal?

Hello everyone!

The topic caused a heated debate and again we are going to continue the debate here. :)

I agree that we don't have the right to decide who should live and who shouldn't and we discussed this. However, we didn't discuss alternative ways of dealing with criminals who committed a minor crime. Albert, please, don't offer to cut the hands of thieves or any other body parts. ;)

How about making a criminal meet his/her victim and have a conversation about what the criminal did and how the victim felt. Will that help?

  1. Crime is the breach of rules or laws for which some governing authority can ultimately prescribe a conviction.
Individual human societies may each define crime and crimes differently. While every crime violates the law, not every violation of the law counts as a crime; for example: breaches of contract and of other civil law may rank as "offences" or as "infractions". Modern societies generally regard crimes as offences against the public or the state, distinguished from torts.

Dear Anna what do you mean that making a criminal meet his/her victim and have a conversation about what the criminal did and how the victim felt?

Did you mean he/she will regret? or this is a punishment for him/her?

  2. What I am talking about is an alternative way of dealing with minor crimes such assaults or burglaries. If a person who attacked a woman in the street to steal her handbag, for example, meets the woman later and has a conversation with her, will it make the criminal regret what he did? Thus we could solve the problem of having overcrowded prisons, for example.

What other ways could you suggest to deal with the problem of having too many criminals in prisons? If you remember, I told you all about this during the lesson.

  3. I don't think it will help to making crimes to be regret
They also meet each other in the court i mean the criminal and plaintiff.
The goverment must learn children from the school to leave without any crime action(black job).
in healthy society we don't have any problems between goverment and nation.

  4. I understand what you are saying, Bahamin. Of course, it would be good to live in a society where nobody commits crimes. However, I want to know your opinion about other ways of punishing minor offenders 9if they commit any cries.
